Children are especially vulnerable to burns from hot liquids, fire, and general unsafe behavior.

Pediatric Scalds: A Burning Issue

  • Set your water heater to no higher than 120°F (48°C) — or just below the medium setting. 

·         Keep hot drinks away from the table and counter edges. 

·         Create a “no kid zone” in the kitchen around stoves, ovens, and hot items. 

·         Place pots and pans on the back burners with handles turned inward. 

Outdoor Activities carry a unique fire and burn risk.

·         Maintain a safe distance of at least three feet from the fire.  

·         Clear the area around the fire of leaves, sticks, and other flammable materials. 

·         Avoid accelerants like gasoline or lighter fluid; they can cause explosive flare-ups.

·         Only build fires in designated fire pits or cleared areas
