Neighbors Needed for Our Firewise Team
Cabernet Highlands has already taken an important step toward wildfire safety.
During a recent neighborhood visit, a Reno Fire Department prevention inspector reviewed the fire break maintained by the HOA and T&T Landscaping. She was pleased with the work already completed—but protecting our neighborhood does not end at the community fire break.
Wind-driven embers can travel ahead of a wildfire and find vulnerable places around individual homes. Vegetation near the house, combustible materials, vents and eaves, wooden fences and decks, and evacuation readiness can all affect whether a home survives.
The next step is to bring homeowners together and build a Cabernet Highlands Firewise program.
We Need a Few Good Neighbors
We are looking for homeowners to form a small Firewise Committee—the core group that will help guide this community effort.
You do not need to be a firefighter, landscaping expert, or construction professional. We need neighbors who are interested in learning, sharing practical information, and helping Cabernet Highlands become better prepared.
The committee will help:
Work with the Reno Fire Department and HOA Board
Identify wildfire risks and practical improvements
Help residents understand defensible-space Zones 0, 1, and 2
Share information about vegetation, vents, eaves, fences, decks, and combustible materials
Encourage household evacuation planning
Organize neighborhood projects and educational activities
Work toward recognition as a Firewise USA® community
This is not about creating another list of HOA rules. It is about giving homeowners useful information and helping neighbors protect their homes, families, and community.
Wildfire safety works best when we work together. One prepared home helps—but a prepared neighborhood is stronger.
