Wildfire Planning
Just before 6:00pm on May 29, a fire started in the brush behind the Instant Oil Change shop on Buck Drive. The Washoe Zephyr was active but not as strong as we have seen in recent days. The fire grew fast.
Fortunately, the fire was controlled quickly by Truckee Meadows Fire department.
This could have been very bad. In just a small 30 minute window, our community went from not thinking about fire to being in direct line of the blaze. The first house on Buck Dr. was within feet of the fire. The second house was less than 100 yards in the path of the fire.
So here is a real life problem we can use for planning purposes. The fire is minutes away from your house. Do you know what to do first that will save your family? What could you do in advance to prepare for this situation?
The action you take to prepare for wildfire evacuation is the most important step. Check out the following link from Washoe County Emergency Planning: https://www.washoecounty.gov/.../PDFs/Washoe_Singles.pdf
